Tamariu is the quietest of the Palafrugell coves, a tiny crescent of sand wrapped in pines, exclusive and calm. As the light fades the scent of the pines drifts up and the few boats sit still on glassy water. From a villa terrace above the hamlet, this is one of the most peaceful settings on the whole coast for an evening at the table.
An evening with Lara suits the place perfectly. She arrives in the afternoon, takes over the kitchen and cooks course by course while you stay outside with your guests and a glass of Empordà wine, the pines darkening around you. Plates come at your pace, the calm is never broken, and she leaves the kitchen exactly as she found it.
Flavours of the Empordà
Lara cooks from the Empordà's bounty: sweet gamba de Palamós prawns from the Palamós fish auction along the coast, salt-cured L'Escala anchovies, Empordà olive oil and the reds and whites of the Empordà DO. She shops the markets of Palafrugell, La Bisbal d'Empordà and Palamós, and the best of the morning decides what comes to your table.
From that catch she cooks the dishes this coast holds dear: a slow suquet de peix, a seafood fideuà, a cool esqueixada of salt cod to start. Everything is dressed with Empordà oil and finished without fuss, the produce left to speak, an honest fishing-village table set quietly in the pines.
Beaches and coves
Tamariu's own beach is a small crescent of clear water and pine-clad rock, beloved by snorkellers and divers. Just around the coast lies the secluded inlet of Aiguaxelida, all smooth rocks and turquoise shallows, while the Camí de Ronda links Tamariu to the other Palafrugell coves for a slow morning of swimming and walking.
After a day in that clear water and a wander to Aiguaxelida, you return to a villa where everything is already done. The table is set, Lara is in the kitchen, and the quietest cove on the coast carries you straight from the beach into a private dinner under the pines, with nothing to do but sit down.
